Ongoing construction at the beach (update)

Ongoing construction of the new Cheval Blanc Resort.

The original proposal was that the new resort would open by July 2022. Now almost a year later it looks like the project might well drag into 2024,  apparently with constant changes to the layout and design. As such we have had to decline a large number of booking requests in the last two and half years. Despite several inquiries sent to the new owners trying to get some feedback on the latest proposed “soft opening’, none has been forthcoming.

The project is indeed having a much bigger environmental impact than originally anticipated with an overall footprint which seems more than double that of the original Banyan Tree resort (below a recent satellite photograph). The building/concrete density, especially along the beach front, combined with a lack of traditional Creole architectural touches, will result in a very different product compared to the original Banyan Tree design and execution.

We will keep former and potential new guests up to date to the extend information becomes available.
